Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has urged the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, to take decisive action and demonstrate strong leadership to end the ongoing parliamentary impasse.

This follows tensions surrounding his declaration of four seats as vacant. The Supreme Court had stayed the execution of that ruling but the National Democratic Congress caucus insisted the speaker’s ruling made them the majority while the New Patriotic Party caucus disagreed with same.

In a recent interview with Asempa FM, Kufuor expressed concern over the current state of affairs in Parliament, describing the situation as “embarrassing” and warning that it could tarnish Bagbin’s esteemed legacy.

He urged the speaker to end the impasse for the successful end of the eight parliament and the country’s sake.

“I will plead with him; he has the solution. With only about a month left in this parliamentary session, you have served well. Parliament is in a mess, and if you’re not careful, it could affect your record.

“Speaker, let things return to how they used to be for Ghana’s sake so that the eighth Parliament can conclude successfully. You are the leader, so take responsibility and ensure that the impasse ends for the good of Ghana,” he said.
