The Kusaug Traditional Council has lifted the suspension of activities for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the six constituencies of the Kusaug area.
On October 28, 2024, the Kusaug Traditional Council issued a press statement condemning the inaction of the ruling NPP government regarding the return of a parallel chief to Bawku, which has reignited conflict in the area and parts of the North East Region.
In response, the Kusaug Traditional Council temporarily suspended all activities of the NPP in the Garu, Bawku Central, Zebilla, Tempane, Pusiga, and Binduri constituencies.
However, the Kusaug Traditional Council has now issued a statement lifting the suspension of NPP activities, urging all political parties in the area to conduct their campaigns peacefully.
In a related development, the Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has directed for the reopening of several courts in the Upper East Region, effective immediately.
This decision comes after a temporary closure due to the ongoing conflict situation in Bawku, which had raised concerns about safety and operational capacity.
According to a memorandum from the Judicial Secretary dated November 8, 2024, the following courts will resume operations:
1. High Court, Bolgatanga
2. Circuit Court, Bolgatanga
3. District Court, Bolgatanga
4. District Court, Bongo
The registrars of these courts have been instructed to take note of the reopening and ensure that all necessary arrangements are made for a smooth resumption of judicial activities.
