Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Director of Communications for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, has criticized Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, stating that he will be remembered as “Ghana’s worst Speaker of Parliament.”
This remark follows Bagbin’s recent declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant, which has led to significant controversy in Parliament.
Bagbin’s decision to adjourn a recent parliamentary session due to the absence of New Patriotic Party (NPP) members further fueled tensions.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus, citing these developments, has asserted that it now holds the majority in Parliament—a claim that the NPP has strongly disputed, accusing Bagbin of creating disorder in the House.
Speaking on Joy News’ Newsfile on Saturday, Aboagye emphasized the need for Bagbin to demonstrate leadership, echoing a similar call from former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
He urged the Speaker to take steps to resolve the impasse and ensure stability in parliamentary proceedings.
“This speaker will go down in history as the worst speaker of parliament we’ve ever had…What this country needs, like President Kufour said yesterday, is a speaker that would realise that we have a very small matter that requires leadership to deal with the matter,” he said.
