The Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has indicated his willingness to consult the Speaker to try and resolve the current Parliamentary impasse.

Bagbin indefinitely adjourned the House due to the absence of a prepared agenda. This followed the failure of the Business Committee to meet and set issues for deliberation.

The session, initially triggered by a recall request from the Majority caucus, was anticipated to tackle pressing legislative matters. However, with no appearance from the Majority MPs in the Chamber, Speaker Bagbin voiced disappointment, noting that their absence prevented the Business Committee from forming an agenda.

In his remarks, Bagbin explained that without an Order Paper, the House lacked a structured agenda to proceed.

Addressing journalists after this in Accra on Thursday, Afenyo-Markin stated “We look forward to engaging Mr. Speaker in the next few hours and days.”

Afenyo-Markin urged Bagbin to take the necessary actions to address ongoing concerns within the parliamentary framework.

“We pray that he does the needful,” he added, indicating that the NPP is hopeful for a resolution that aligns with democratic principles.

However, he also made it clear that if Bagbin fails to act appropriately, the NPP will not hesitate to pursue legal avenues to ensure that the right processes are followed.

“If he doesn’t do the needful, we will continue to rely on the law to get the right things done,” Afenyo-Markin warned, underscoring the party’s commitment to upholding the rule of law.
