The Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has urged Ghanaians to hold the New Patriotic Party (NPP) accountable for causing financial loss to the state and to vote them out in the upcoming elections.
His comments followed the indefinite adjournment of Parliament by Speaker Alban Bagbin on Thursday, November 7, due to the lack of prepared business for lawmakers to discuss.
Speaker Bagbin’s decision to adjourn stemmed from the Business Committee’s failure to convene and set an agenda for the House.
Despite a recall initiated by the NPP, none of their Members of Parliament appeared in the Chamber to proceed with legislative duties, although some NPP MPs were reportedly seen within the precincts of Parliament.
Speaking to the Parliamentary Press Corps after the adjournment, Dr. Ato Forson criticized the absence of NPP MPs as both “concerning and disturbing.”
He argued that their inaction demonstrates an unwillingness to address the nation’s pressing issues and called on Ghanaians to respond by voting them out of office in the next election.
“I am deeply concerned and disturbed by what has happened and this is an abuse of the Standing Orders of the House. It is tantamount to causing financial loss to the state and we call on Ghanaians to punish them accordingly. They are short of ideas on solving the issues of the country and all that they know is dancing during their campaigns and sharing money.”
“Let no one deceive you that the NDC is here to distract government business because there is no business. We are fed up and we are just waiting for the elections so that Ghanaians can vote out this incompetent government.”
