The Member of Parliament (MP) for Sabona, Joseph Nikpe Bukari, expressed his disappointment with New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs for failing to show up in Parliament early despite triggering a recall of the House.
He described the majority MPs as ‘unserious,’ about government business for their failure to be in the House on time for the session to start.
Bukari highlighted his frustration with what he sees as a disregard for parliamentary responsibilities by the NPP members.
Speaking Channel One TV’s Nii Ayikwei Okine on Thursday, the Saboba MP said, “The governing sides are not serious, and we are here to do business. We can see that they are not here. They have triggered the provisions to make the speaker recall us. So, we expected that we would have come to sit down to do business. We are here and we don’t know where they are.
“We are not supposed to be in the chamber by 10 AM. We are expected to be in the chamber before 10 AM and the speaker comes in at the stated time. So, if by this time none of them is here, then it leads us to conclude that they are not serious about government business. They are wasting our time, they are wasting the Ghanaian people’s time and are making unnecessary requests by keeping us in parliament when we have a lot of jobs to do in our constituencies.
“Tomorrow is farmers’ day and we should have been there, but they brought us here and they are not serious. So, we just want to urge that if they don’t have any business, then they shouldn’t disturb the speaker by asking for a recall any longer,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Members of Parliament (MPs) from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have once again occupied the majority side—the right-hand side of the Speaker—intensifying tensions with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs over which party holds the majority in Parliament.
