The Coalition of Hygiene Students and Unposted Hygiene Graduates has announced plans to picket at the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources starting November 19, 2024, to protest against the delay in posting trained graduates and the non-payment of student allowances.

After years of follow-ups and unsuccessful engagements with government officials, the group expressed frustration over what it describes as “abject treatment” by the government.

Thousands of qualified graduates from the 2021 batch remain unposted, despite their credentials and eagerness to contribute to Ghana’s preventive health sector.

In an interview with Citi News, the national chairman of the coalition, Silas Tetteh emphasised an immediate financial clearance for postings and the release of these backlogged allowances, pledging to remain at the Ministry until their issues are resolved.

“We demand immediate deployment and postings as well as the payment of 2 years backlog allowances to the current students on campus.

“We have given the government enough time. This is four years. Since 2021, students of the School of Hygiene have graduated, qualified, written their licensures and are waiting for deployment. Financial clearance should be given immediately for them to be deployed to their various stations and communities to work for the nation.

“Students on campus are enduring different levels of hardship because of two years of unpaid allowances. It is possible to fulfil these demands, but the government has intentionally decided not to. That is why we will hit them hard on November 19 if these issues are not resolved, “, he stated.
