The burst occurred unexpectedly, forcing the driver to attempt a hard brake in a desperate effort to stop the vehicle. However, the high speed and the sudden manoeuvre caused the vehicle to veer off the main road and into a nearby bush.

The intensity of the movement ejected three passengers from the vehicle, with one woman suffering a severe injury as her leg got trapped between the car’s doors during the chaos.

Passengers who remained inside sustained a range of injuries, with three reportedly in critical condition and requiring immediate medical attention. They were rushed to the nearest hospital, where one of them was reported to be in life-threatening condition.

An eyewitness who had been having a meal nearby when the accident occurred, said bystanders attempted rescuing the trapped passengers.

“I was eating when I heard the loud sound of a tyre burst. When I went to check, I saw it was a sprinter. Due to the overspeeding, the driver lost control while trying to stop the vehicle, and three passengers were thrown out of the car.

“I quickly rushed to help one woman whose leg was trapped between the doors. The vehicle was speeding from Kumasi to Accra, and the tyre burst causing it to veer into the bush.”

The police are currently on-site, managing the situation and conducting investigations.
