The Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has described the Ashanti Region as a “decorated shrine” for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing the ruling party of launching flashy development projects only in the lead-up to elections.
Speaking on the third day of his campaign tour at Achiase in the Atwima Mponua constituency in the Ashanti Region, Nketiah criticized the NPP for ignoring the region’s genuine needs until election time.
He claimed that the party tends to initiate a flurry of development projects just to secure votes, without any sustained commitment to addressing the region’s long-term issues.
“The idols in the shrine do not eat all year round. They are only fed during the festive season. They are left unattended afterwards and come back again the next season.
“The Ashanti region has allowed itself to be treated as such, by the NPP government. I have realised that this year, things have changed tremendously.
“By all means, things will change in the region. We need to start right from Atwima Mponua constituency during this election”, he stated
