The Aseibuhene of the Akwamu Traditional Area, Nana Gyan Oduro Dapaa II, has expressed concerns over what he describes as neglect of the Asuogyaman Constituency, despite the area’s significant contributions to the nation.

Located along the Volta River, the Asuogyaman Constituency includes prominent communities such as Akosombo, Atimpoku, Senchi, Anum, and Boso.

The Asuogyaman constituency hosts key landmarks like the Akosombo Dam and township, the Atimpoku Bridge, and the Royal Senchi Hotel.

Speaking on The Constituency programme on Channel One TV, the traditional leader highlighted the lack of adequate infrastructure and high utility costs in the district.

He noted that despite the economic contributions these communities make, they see a limited benefit in return.

“Seriously, I think we have not been dealt with fairly. Because taking into consideration what we provide for the nation, especially the dam and the market. This market supplies yam to Tema, and Kumasi, among others. But we have been left unconcerned.

“Our roads are not good, when it comes to electricity, the bills that we pay are so exorbitant. Imagine if this dam was built in another region, I think that power would have been free for all but the amount of power rate we pay here is so high,” he stated.

Additionally, as the Adontehene of Senchi, Nana Dapaa proposed measures to preserve the lifespan of the Adomi Bridge, which links Asuogyaman to other parts of the Eastern Region. He suggested that ferries previously used along the Volta River should be reinstated to divert heavy trucks, thus reducing stress on the bridge.

“Again, to sustain the lifespan of the Adomi bridge, I will suggest that the ferries that were here before should be brought back to ply the river so that the bigger trucks up to a certain tonnage can use the ferry to extend the lifespan of the bridge.

“This is because it takes a lot of money to rehabilitate the bridge. So, if at least one ferry is brought back, it will cut the bigger truck and the lifespan of the bridge will be expanded,” he added.
