In a shocking incident in Twifo Hemang, Central Region, 47-year-old Yaw Ansah has been arrested for allegedly attacking his 7-year-old son with a machete, leaving the boy with serious injuries.
According to witnesses, the assault took place in Sumnyamekodur, a community in the Hemang Lower Denkyira District, after the child struggled to complete an errand assigned by his father.
Ansah reportedly reacted violently, inflicting a deep wound on the boy’s right wrist, and allegedly attempted to sever it.
One resident recounted, “I was at home when I heard the father instructing the boy to hack a palm fruit, but the boy said it was too difficult. Moments later, we heard his screams. When we rushed over, we found his wrist slashed. We took him to the hospital right away.”
Residents further disclosed that this was not the first time Ansah had subjected his children to violence. “He once chopped off part of his son’s finger,” one local said. “He’s always abusing the children and even threatens to sell them. This time, the police must take action.”
The community has called for authorities to intervene and ensure the safety of the children in Ansah’s care. Police are currently investigating the case.
