A Senior Research Associate for IMANI Africa, Dennis Asare has stated that none of the political party manifestos effectively address the structural problems of Ghana’s macroeconomic challenges and public accountability.
Speaking at IMANI Africa’s Critical Analysis of Political Party Manifestos 2024, Asare emphasised that the manifestos of NPP, NDC and Movement for Change are overly ambitious.
According to him, most of the political party manifesto promises are vague and do not provide enough information to critically gauge the effects of addressing the various key sectors in focus.
“None of them effectively addresses the structural problems of our macroeconomic challenges and public accountability. None of them goes to the core. There are a lot of things they are saying.
“They are going to set up multiple schemes of stuff but eventually if we don’t take care, by four years we may be having another conversation about another IMF programme or another support programme because we don’t spend time to deal with the core problems, so we pretend to be implementing reforms, but we are dealing with reforms,” he said.
Asare further underscored that the various manifestos’ overambitious nature may place stress on the state’s public expenditure in the case where they are implemented.
