Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has asserted that ethnic background or tribal affiliation no longer defines political loyalty or influence, countering the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) traditional stance on the matter.
Speaking to community members in Ahwerewam, within the Ahafo Ano South-East Constituency of the Ashanti Region, he highlighted the evolving political landscape, noting that both the NPP and NDC presidential candidates for the upcoming election are from the Northern Region.
This, he suggested, signifies a pivotal shift, where voters are increasingly focused on policies and leadership qualities rather than ethnic affiliations.
“If you are Akan, you vote for NPP, if you’re a Northerner, vote NDC. We didn’t even know that the Akans agree that it is better when the NDC is in power. Whether you’re NPP or NDC, you have to vote for Teni [Northerner].
“Definitely, a Northener will be president in 2025, we have two Northerners but we have to vote based on their records. We need to recognise that Mahama embarks on projects in Akan cities rather than the North.
“The NPP liked Northerners so they went in for a Northerner as well. The NPP’s Northerner cannot be compared to John Mahama.”
