The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has listed three railway lines that he will prioritise when elected as President of Ghana.

At a community connection in Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua constituency in the Ashanti Region, Dr Bawumia indicated that investment in the railway sector is essential to bauxite mining.

“You know, if you have bauxite but no railway, it poses a challenge. However, if we revamp the railway lines, it will greatly benefit us. In the context of Ghana, I have three main railway lines planned. The first will connect Accra-Tema to Kumasi, the second will run from Kumasi to Takoradi, and the third will go from Asawaso through Nyinahin to Aduaden. We are committed to developing these railways for you. Additionally, there is another line from Adum to Akaase, which will be a 6 km railway we will also develop.

The need for railways is clear. We will extend the railway from Accra through Kumasi and then northward, allowing us to explore bauxite, iron ore, and all the natural resources in the country. This will bring about significant transformation. While we have made great efforts with the roads, my focus will be more on the railway, as that is where the real transformation will come from,” he stated.
