The mayor of Kumasi, Samuel Pyne has expressed confidence that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will secure a resounding victory in the Ashanti Region.
He said that was because of the genuine and widespread support for the NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
In an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Monday, November 4, Mr Pyne dismissed allegations that the Dr Bawumia’s support in the region was superficial, emphasising his belief in its authenticity.
“I have been a regional secretary for 12 years. I am a grass root person. I go down and I have been the Mayor of Kumasi, and I deal with the people down there and I know we are going to come out in millions to vote for the NPP.”
“When you find people wasting their time and coming from their homes, running over to meet the vice president, you don’t tell me it’s fun-fool respect. I have been in politics since 1992, and I read the eyes and feelings of the people. I know genuine and organic support and the inorganic ones I am telling you Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is going to be the president of the Republic of Ghana come January 2025,” he said.
Pyne also highlighted the government’s contributions to the development of the Ashanti Region under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, asserting that the current administration’s achievements surpass those of previous governments since 1992.
He pointed to both completed and ongoing infrastructure projects as evidence of the NPP’s commitment to the region.
“The development the Ashanti region has had under the Akufo-Addo regime is far better than almost all the government since 1992, and I can assure you that. If you want me to talk about development in the Ashanti region, we can talk about infrastructure and, apart from the legacy ones we came to complete, we have finished our own, “he stated.
Meanwhile, Dr Bawumia has started a 15-day tour of the Ashanti Region. The tour will cover all 47 constituencies in the region, aiming to energise the party’s base and rally support ahead of the upcoming elections.
Throughout the tour, Dr Bawumia will meet with local party officials, community leaders, and constituents, addressing critical issues and sharing his vision for Ghana’s future.
The Ashanti Region, with its substantial voter base, plays a crucial role in the NPP’s election strategy, making this tour an essential component of the party’s preparations.
