Major healthcare facilities in the Ashanti Region are facing huge debts as many patients are unable to pay their medical bills after receiving treatment.
The Suntreso Government Hospital is one of the main facilities providing healthcare for patients from both within and outside the Ashanti Region.
However, the financial challenges of some patients make it difficult for them to pay their medical bills, leading to accumulated debt that strains the hospital’s finances.
Management also highlighted several key challenges impacting healthcare delivery at the facility.
The situation is similar at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, which serves as a referral centre for about twelve regions.
According to management at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), the mounting debts are worsening congestion, limiting space, and preventing new patients from accessing needed care.
KATH Chief Executive Officer, Professor Otechere Addai-Mensah, expressed concern that patients’ inability to settle their bills is affecting overall healthcare delivery.
In a recent intervention, the Managing Director of Kofi Job Construction Limited paid the bills for some patients at both Suntreso Government Hospital and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
He also pledged to help address other pressing issues impacting healthcare at these facilities.
