The Bolgatanga Traditional Council has issued a strong warning to the feuding factions in the escalating Bawku conflict, urging them to cease harming and killing innocent people not connected to the conflict.

This warning comes after 19 lives have been lost to the conflict, which has been ongoing between the Kusasi and Mamprusi ethnic groups over the occupancy of the Bawku skin, representing chiefly authority in the Bawku traditional area.

The Council expressed concerns about the escalating violence and its impact on innocent lives.

In a statement released on November 1, they specifically warned against using the trans-ECOWAS road as a conduit for harming innocent people.

The Council appealed to both factions to allow peace to prevail, emphasising the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

“The traditional council is appealing to both factions of the conflict to allow peace to prevail. It is, however, worrying to see the situation in Bawku now escalating, to other parts of the region where some innocent souls are killed for no reason or whatsoever.

“The Bolgatanga Traditional Council would want to strongly state that; both factions of the conflict should desist from killing innocent people who are not part of the conflict. We would want to further emphasise that, the road leading to Walewale is a trans-ECOWAS road for people to travel and therefore, should not turn to be a conduit for killing of innocent people who have nothing relating to the conflict.”

The Bolgatanga Traditional Council issued a stern warning, emphasising that those responsible for the violence in Bawku will face consequences.

The Council is urging authorities to take decisive action against the perpetrators to restore peace and stability.

“The Bolgatanga Traditional Council further wants to state that, if these killings of innocent people do not stop, we have no option than to ask them to go back. We want you to stop killing our people.”

The government has imposed a 6:pm to 6:am curfew on Bawku.
