Baba Sadiq, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Okaikwei Central, has criticized Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s call for a debate, asserting that the vice president should address the country’s economic struggles before seeking public discourse.

Dr. Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has on several occasions called for a debate between himself and NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama ahead of the 2024 elections.

However, speaking on the Point Blank segment of Eyewitness News on Wednesday, October 30, Baba Sadiq contended that a debate would be premature without first resolving critical economic issues that have persisted under the current administration.

Baba Sadiq said, “How much money did we get through the COVID fund, for instance? Till today, even when COVID is not around, the levy still exists. They got so much money in our resource envelopes.

“Before the NDC left the government, the few other initiatives that we left for them were to cushion specific areas. What has happened to these things?

Sadiq argued that rather than deflecting issues, Dr Bawumia should acknowledge the economic downturn, adding, “What have they done specifically to ensure that this economy is turned around? So like it has been said severally, the current vice president cannot be demanding for debate, there are key issues he has to speak to and accept his failures,” he stated.
