The Ghana Police Service has granted approval to the staff of the Koforidua Technical University (KTU) to picket on October 31, at the premises of the State Insurance Company (SIC) head office in Accra following SIC’s inability to disburse over GH¢9 million provident fund owed the staff of KTU.
About 566 staff of the Koforidua Technical University including both Junior and Senior staff in 2010 entered into a fund management agreement with State Insurance Company – Financial Services Limited but in 2022 management decided to opt out following the inability of SIC – FSL to pay insurance packages to beneficiaries, members on retirement and members who needed funds for medical treatment.
Addressing the press on this disturbing development on Wednesday, October 30, in Koforidua, the Chairman of the Technical University Senior Administrators Association of Ghana KTU Branch Daniel Mbima indicated that the staff will on Thursday, October 31 picket at the SIC head office in Accra.
“We are going to take any means that is required for us to get our monies retrieved from SIC Financial Services Limited. We wrote to the regional command and notified them that we wanted to picket on the ground of the SIC in Accra.
“We have been given the opportunity by the command. We have also notified them to give us our money, or we also gave them a notice that we are going to picket on the grounds of SIC in Accra,” he stated.
