In a significant development, the Ghana Police Service has successfully located Mr Tony Mintah, the Chief Executive Officer of NextGen Infraco, following reports of his abduction by unidentified individuals from the National Communications Authority (NCA) premises in Accra.

The police have confirmed this positive news in a brief statement, indicating that more details will be shared shortly.

They had previously informed the public that investigations were underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding Mr Mintah’s alleged abduction and assured citizens that updates would be communicated as new information became available.

NextGen Infraco, awarded the licensing contract to manage Ghana’s transition to the 5G spectrum, expressed profound gratitude to the Ghana Police Service for their swift and professional handling of the situation.

In a statement, the management of NextGen Infraco announced: “We are pleased to inform the public that Mr. Mintah has been located and is safe. We also want to extend our appreciation to the general public for their support and cooperation during this time. Your vigilance and assistance were invaluable. Thank you once again to the authorities and the public for your continued efforts.”

The launch of NextGen InfraCo (NGIC) took place on June 3, 2024, as a collaborative effort between the Government of Ghana and various partners, including Ascend Digital, K-NET, Radisys, Nokia, and Tech Mahindra.

The initiative, supported by all mobile network operators such as AirtelTigo and Telecel, aims to provide affordable 5G mobile broadband services nationwide.

During a press briefing at the Ministry of Information in Accra, the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful (MP), hailed the NGIC launch as a groundbreaking partnership and a crucial step toward advancing the country’s digital transformation agenda.
