One person has died, and three others are receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after a one-storey building tumbled on them while they were working.
The incident, which occurred on Friday, October 19, 2024, at Oti in the Asokwa Municipality of the Ashanti Region, has left the family of the deceased in shock as they mourn their loss.
According to eyewitnesses, the landlord, along with the mason and his workers, were caught off guard when the structure they were working on suddenly collapsed while they were on the first floor.
An eyewitness, Kwame Anarfi narrated that the waterlogged area and weak pillars caused the collapse, as the weight of the first floor was too heavy for the structure to support.
One of the eyewitnesses told Citi News that the victims were rescued with the help of the fire service.
“They were working at the top of the storey building. All of a sudden we heard a loud noise, we thought it was the sound of rain. It was later that we realised that it was the building,” he stated.
“Last Friday, before they started work, one of the workers raised concerns about a pillar in the building. He insisted that the building could collapse. The land is also a water-logged area,” he stated.
