The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central Joana Gyan Cudjoe have filed an injunction to halt the Electoral Commission’s (EC) printing of the parliamentary ballot papers and notice of poll for the constituency.
This follows the disqualification of Cudjoe, by the EC. The disqualification was based on an interlocutory injunction issued by the Sekondi High Court, which prevents the EC from recognising Cudjoe as the party’s candidate.
The EC cited her disqualification as being due to a pending lawsuit against her candidacy, which has neither been stayed nor vacated. The commission emphasised that it was bound by the existing court order in making its decision.
The EC in a letter said, “You have been disqualified from standing as a candidate for election to Parliament in your Constituency.”
But lawyers for the parliamentary candidate, Ayine and Associates, in an October 15 letter to the EC, stressed that Joana Gyan Cudjoe was the NDC’s duly elected candidate of the party.
