Felix Kwakye Ofosu, an aide to NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama, has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of pushing for a debate in a desperate bid to salvage their diminishing electoral prospects.
This response follows President Akufo-Addo’s claim that Mahama is avoiding a debate with Dr. Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, October 16, Kwakye Ofosu dismissed the debate challenge as a mere political tactic.
He argued that the NPP’s call for a debate is hypocritical, pointing out that neither the president nor the vice president has previously shown genuine interest in participating in such engagements.
“It is obvious that both President Akufo-Addo and Bawumia are aware that they are the trailing parties in this election and that they are on their way to receiving a humiliating defeat in the election. So, they are desperately begging for a debate in the hopes that it would revive their fortunes.
“Otherwise, they better believe that people who have never believed in debates would not be calling for a debate every minute they get. So, in a nutshell, President Mahama and the NDC are not going to waste their time on people who will behave hypocritically, who are unprincipled and choose and pick when they show up for a debate,” he stated.
