Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Vice-Presidential Candidate says the party is committed to establishing a children’s hospital if it is voted into power in the December polls.

She said this would address the many challenges of infants while creating the platform for the training of many pediatric doctors and nurses.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang said this when she addressed students of the Goaso Nursing Training and Midwifery College.

She noted that policies would be put in place to address the importation of nurses abroad and urged the students to support the NDC’s vision for the sector.

“One of the things we plan to do going forward is to establish a children’s hospital. We don’t have one, so we need pediatric nurses. Anytime you hear of this, just push your mind back, ask yourself what you need and take the steps quickly. We need to create this facility for that training to happen. So, setting up the hospital at Legon and all these places is part of a larger plan. Unfortunately, we have been out for eight years, and that plan has stalled.”

“You are nurses; you know much better than I do. So, the basis of all this is to create jobs, employment and opportunities. The hospital will require pediatric doctors, those who know how to operate on newborn babies. Even their equipment, training, everything will be different…So, I raised all of this for you to know how we are thinking ahead and why we think the NDC is the choice of the youth,” she stated.
