The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed that six individuals were involved in the tragic accident on Saturday, October 12, 2024, which resulted in two vehicles being engulfed in flames, leaving two victims burnt beyond recognition.
According to the GNFS, by the time they arrived at the scene, four individuals had already been rushed to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) for emergency treatment.
The fire, which consumed both an Acura and a Jaguar, tragically trapped two occupants inside the Acura, leading to their deaths. The victims were unable to escape as the flames rapidly spread through the vehicle.
DO II Desmond Arkah, Public Relations Officer for the GNFS, shared details of the incident during an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, October 14, 2024.
He explained that the cause of the fire is still under investigation, and more information will be made available as the case progresses.
The fire service continues to urge road users to be cautious and adhere to safety guidelines to prevent such devastating accidents.
“Before we got to the incident, these four; two in the Jaguar vehicle and two in the Acura, had been rescued and sent to the hospital already.
“We had to help to finally extinguish the fire and also help to bring two burnt bodies from the Acura vehicle. So, we can confirm that 6 people were involved in the accident but is it unfortunate the two had to be burnt in such a situation? So, we have four who have been sent to the hospital for medical attention,” he stated.
He continued: “Like I indicated our team are yet to reach out to the University of Ghana facility so we will be able to do our further investigation to ascertain their age, names and all the other details. So, as and when we can do that, we will share them with you.”
