Police commence investigation into East Legon accident

The police have launched an investigation into a fatal accident that occurred in East Legon on Saturday, October 12, 2024.

The incident involved a devastating fire that engulfed two vehicles, resulting in the tragic deaths of two occupants who were burnt beyond recognition.

Eyewitnesses reported that the blaze quickly spread, trapping two individuals inside an Acura vehicle. Despite attempts to rescue them, they were unable to escape the flames and ultimately lost their lives.

Authorities are currently gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine the cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The identities of the victims have not yet been released, and investigations are ongoing to provide answers to their families and the public.

The police in a statement on Monday noted that the “Preliminary Police investigation indicates that the suspect driver, identified as Salifu Amoako, rammed his vehicle into another vehicle on Dzanie Ashie Street at East Legon. Both vehicles caught fire and burnt beyond recognition.”

Adding that “The suspect driver and other surviving victims are currently receiving medical attention.”

Meanwhile, the police said one of the surviving victims has since been treated and discharged, while the bodies of the deceased victims have been deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
