Martin Waana-Ang, ESQ, the best-graduating law student of the Ghana School of Law, has highlighted the crucial role of law in advancing societal progress and maintaining order.

He stressed that without legal frameworks, societies, including Ghana, would descend into disorder and chaos.

In an interview on The Point of View on Channel One TV, Waana-Ang underscored the law’s capacity to drive meaningful social reform and act as a catalyst for development.

However, he emphasised that laws alone are not enough to bring about transformation. Citizens must actively engage in upholding these laws for them to be effective.

He also noted that being a good citizen involves more than understanding legal rights; it requires active participation in societal duties and a strong sense of belonging to the community.

According to Waana-Ang, this dual responsibility ensures that the rule of law can serve its purpose in fostering peace and development in Ghana.

“If we take a society like Ghana, without law, everything will be so disorganised. I believe that law is a vehicle of change. But then, that is not the only means, it is just a means to an end, but then we the people in Ghana have various individual roles that we can play to ensure that this law that we’re talking about can achieve its purpose.

“In other words, what I’m trying to say is that if we pass laws, we can pass over 1000 laws but it doesn’t bring about change. It’s about the willingness to enforce those laws and make them work, that is going to bring about the change,” he mentioned to host Bernard Avle.

Martin Waana-Ang, ESQ, was among the 777 newly inducted lawyers by the Ghana Legal Council on October 11, 2024, at the Accra International Conference Centre, marking a significant milestone in his career.

10 new lawyers were awarded for outstanding performance during their professional law course. Four of the awardees were men, while six were females.

As a freshly minted lawyer and best-graduating student of the Ghana School of Law, Waana-Ang demonstrated exceptional academic prowess and dedication to his profession
