The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has warned against the unauthorized use of military-pattern uniforms and accoutrements during demonstrations and around illegal mining sites.
This warning comes after the GAF observed a growing trend of individuals wearing unapproved military uniforms while providing security for public figures, which poses a significant security risk and could tarnish the military’s image.
GAF emphasized that this practice is not only illegal but also creates a sense of insecurity in the country.
“The attention of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has been drawn to the unauthorized and unlawful use of military-pattern uniforms and accoutrements by protesters during demonstrations, as well as by individuals providing security for some public figures.
“GAF has also noted with dismay similar illegal acts among persons operating in illegal mining areas (Galamsey sites) and some political activists. Despite ongoing education and warnings, this concerning trend appears to be increasing.”
GAF warned that people who violate the regulations will face the full rigour of the law, urging the public to report any suspicious activities involving unauthorised military attire.
“In light of the security implications of these illegal acts, GAF will henceforth take decisive actions, including, the arrest of persons who violate these regulations to face the full rigour of the law. We also urge the public to report any suspicious activities involving unauthorised military attire.
“GAF reassures the public of its unwavering commitment to protecting citizens and maintaining the territorial integrity of Ghana. As the country approaches the 2024 general elections, the cooperation of all citizens is essential in upholding peace and security.”
