The anti-galamsey task force has moved to the Pra River after burning about 30 pieces of equipment on the Birim River in the Eastern Region on Thursday, October 10, 2024.
The swift move from the Eastern to the Central Region is part of the task force’s strategy to surprise illegal miners across the country.
Speaking to Channel One News on Friday, the Operation Halt Task Force Commander, Col. Eric Tenadu, noted that 10 changfans have been destroyed, one locally manufactured pistol seized, and several water pumping machines dismantled.
According to him, the first phase of their operations will last two weeks, during which they plan to patrol all major river bodies.
“So far we have been able to destroy 10 changfans and then some water pumping machines, a number of them about seven of them and we have been able to seize one single barrel weapon, locally manufactured and BB cartridge and a set of mechanic tools.”
“We have seized all these things, and we have burnt some holes, the holes that they use to take the water from the river and wash. We’ve gathered all the holes and burnt everything. Currently, we are preparing to move to another area,” he stated.
