The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has cautioned its staff not to partake in the nationwide strike declared by the Organised Labour.

Organised Labour is set to commence its nationwide strike action from Thursday, October 10, 2024, over the government’s failure to address the illegal mining (galamsey) menace.

But the Agency says any staffer who goes on strike does so at his or her peril.

Speaking at an event at the Agency in Accra on Wednesday, the Board Chairman of GMet, Isaac Amoo, stressed that GMet was an essential service organisation and did not approve any of its workers to go on strike.

“GMET is part of the essential services of this country. So, on behalf of the board and leadership of this agency, I want to announce to you that GMET does not approve any of its workers to join the nationwide strike and any worker who will flout the directive should consider himself or herself as having terminated his or her appointment,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has also issued a statement indicating that it will not embark on the strike action and has directed all nurses and midwives to stay at post and continue delivering safe and quality health services to Ghanaians.
