Vice Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, alias NAPO, insists that the next government under Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will not ban small-scale mining.
Instead, he said the government would empower small-scale miners to engage in responsible mining and expand their operations.
He said this while addressing community members and party supporters at a campaign event in the Manso Adubia constituency in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, October 7.
NAPO indicated the need to distinguish between responsible, regulated mining and illegal mining activities.
He highlighted the promises of Dr Bawumia that will promote responsible mining.
“A government led by Dr Bawumia will promote mining. We cannot stop mining, but we will do so responsibly. We will not mine to destroy our waterbodies and forests. We will make equipment that ensures responsible mining available to Ghanaians,” he stated.
