Some supporters of Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen’s Movement for Change in the Central Region have defected to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2024 elections.
Over 100 supporters at a press conference in Cape Coast on Tuesday, October 8 stated their intentions for leaving the Movement for Change, indicating that the NPP’s numerous developmental projects across the country informed their decision.
The group, which previously campaigned for Alan Kyerematen during the Presidential primaries, believes the NPP flag bearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, stands a better chance of winning the 2024 elections, hence their decision to work for the party towards that victory.
Leader of the group, Francis Edzie, who is now the polling station secretary for the New Patriotic Party in the Twi-Ndzi-Twi Jejem electoral area in the Cape Coast South Constituency, said they have heeded calls from the national campaign team of Dr Bawumia and are certain that their decision is in the interest of the NPP party.
“We, the campaign team members of Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen during the presidential primaries, have gathered here today to make our intention known. We followed Alan Kyerematen to the Movement for Change but have decided to return to our mother party after advice from the national campaign of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.”
“The NPP has done a lot in terms of developmental projects in its eight years in office. We want the NPP to continue with its progress, and so we have decided to support the party. We declare to support the party with our able strength for the betterment of us all with Dr. Bawumia becoming President in 2025,” he said.
