A second case of Mpox has been confirmed in Ghana, raising the total number of confirmed cases to two. The latest case involves the mother of a 15-year-old boy who was diagnosed with the disease earlier in September.

Dr. Dennis Laryea, Deputy Director of Disease Surveillance at the Ghana Health Service, confirmed the new case, noting that health officials are closely monitoring the situation to prevent further spread.

The mother is currently receiving treatment, while health authorities have intensified contact tracing and are reinforcing public health protocols in the affected area.

Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, is a viral zoonotic disease that can spread between animals and humans. The disease primarily spreads through close contact with an infected person or animal or contaminated surfaces, including bedding or clothing.

Symptoms include fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes, and while it can be severe, it is rarely fatal.

The 15-year-old boy’s case was the first confirmed case of Mpox in Ghana this year, prompting health officials to issue public health advisories and raise awareness on preventing the disease.
