The Minerals Commission of Ghana has denied allegations of understaffing, assuring that it has ample funds to secure the necessary logistics and personnel to carry out its inspection duties.
This reassurance was provided by Chief Executive Officer Martin Ayisi during a parliamentary hearing before the Government Assurances Committee, on Monday, October 7.
Ayisi’s statement comes after reports suggested the Commission was struggling with insufficient staffing.
However, he demonstrated the Commission’s capacity to effectively manage the mining sector, with a clear outline of its key functions, objectives, and thematic areas, including sustainable extraction of mineral resources and effective linkages of the extractive industry to the rest of the economy.
“Capacity-wise, I think we’re okay. I was listening to the news this morning and I heard one of the radio stations talking about capacity, we’re understaffed, it’s not the case. In fact, I heard someone say that our 7 inspectors have been dismissed, but that is not the case.
“In terms of resources for training, in terms of resources to hire more people, we’re okay.”
