The Commissioner of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Julie Essiam, has highlighted the transformative potential of the newly launched CitizenApp, describing it as a solution to the frustrations long associated with accessing public services in the country.
The Citizen App, a government initiative, connects users to public notices from various arms and institutions, job opportunities from both public and private sectors, and all government services, while also offering access to information linked to the Ghana Card. The app aims to streamline interactions between the public and government agencies, enhancing convenience and accessibility.
Speaking at the launch of the app on Monday, October 7, 2024, the GRA boss emphasised that the centralised mobile platform will provide citizens and residents with seamless access to government services, reducing bureaucracy and improving overall efficiency.
She further explained that the platform is designed to reduce waiting times, cut through bureaucratic processes, and provide citizens with direct access to information and services.
“Today we stand on a threshold of a new era, where convenience and accessibility in public services are not just aspirations but they are becoming a reality; it is a reality today. With the CitizenApp, we are taking very bold steps to eliminate frustrations that have for too long been associated with accessing public services.
“We are building a system that cuts through bureaucracy, reduces waiting times and puts the power of information and services directly into the hands of our people. Imagine a future where dealing with public services no longer brings frustration but relief,” she stated.
In addition, the Director General of the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), Richard Okyere-Fosu, underscored the app’s commitment to data security and regulatory compliance.
He assured users that the system ensures their personal information is protected under data protection regulations.
“Citizen App is built on the premises of data security, and regulatory compliance. No longer will government agencies need to manually copy data into spreadsheets or share sensitive information through unsecured channels.
“We are ushering in new connectivity that operates at the request of the citizen. Every piece of data is shared in compliance with our data protection regulations in ensuring that citizens’ personal information is secured at all times,” he stated.
