A significant protest took place on Saturday, October 5, outside the Ghana High Commission in London, as demonstrators rallied against illegal mining activities, commonly known as “galamsey,” in Ghana.
Chanting slogans and holding placards, the protesters called for immediate action from the Ghanaian government to combat illegal mining operations, which have led to severe deforestation, water pollution, and displacement of local communities.
The demonstrators emphasised the urgent need for sustainable mining practices and stricter enforcement of environmental regulations.
They also called on the government to free detained Democracy Hub protesters.
Meanwhile, the third day of the ongoing anti-galamsey protest in Ghana has seen a significant boost in support as prominent figures, including actor and politician John Dumelo and social media influencer Afia Odo, joined the demonstrators.
The protest, which aims to draw attention to the devastating effects of illegal mining (galamsey) on the environment, has been gaining momentum for the past three days.
The protestors are on with their energetic protest amidst singing and dancing.
