The second day of the Concerned Citizens Against Galamsey protest began with an energetic start, as demonstrators gathered for a ‘morale’ session before marching through the streets of Accra to demand decisive action against illegal mining activities.
Organised by the pressure group Concerned Citizens Against Galamsey, the protest seeks to highlight the severe environmental destruction caused by illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey.
Young participants filled the atmosphere with chants, songs, and drumming, energizing the crowd before setting off on the march. The demonstrators are expected to present a petition to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources today, Friday, October 4.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Thursday, October 3, the group’s convenor, Brownson Adatti, revealed that the protest will continue on Saturday, October 5, when they will present another petition to Parliament to further press their demands for action against galamsey.
