The Chief of Dakpema in the Tamale Metropolis, Nyab Bawa Fuseini Binbarigu, has called on residents to prioritize peace and unity as the country approaches the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on the Community Forum in Tamale with Umaru Sanda Amadu, the traditional leader emphasized the importance of maintaining harmony, urging the people of Tamale not to let political differences lead to division or violence.
Nyab Bawa Fuseini Binbarigu reminded residents that humanity and community ties transcend political affiliations. He stressed that partisan politics should never disrupt the peace that currently exists within the metropolis.
The Dakpema Chief’s message, translated by Abdul Gafaru, appealed to the people to safeguard the peace the country is enjoying, particularly as the election season draws nearer.
“Going into the 2024 general election should not bring about violence or disruption of the peace we are enjoying. Only through peace can we achieve the development we need in this metropolis,” he noted.
The Dakpema Chief further stressed that the election of a president is ultimately decided by a higher power.
“The selection of a president is by the special grace of the Almighty. So, whoever is selected at the end of the polls, we must all rally behind that person for the sake of development,” he said through his translator, Abdul Gafaru.
He encouraged residents to remain calm, united, and peaceful throughout the election process.
In addition to his call for peace, the Dakpema Chief raised concerns about the rising abuse of illegal drugs among the youth in the metropolis.
He urged the youth to desist from such activities, warning of the negative consequences for the community. The traditional leader also called on those who promote the use of illegal drugs to stop, stressing the need for a healthier, more productive environment for the younger generation.
