The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has pledged to address the concerns of fisherfolk regarding access to premix fuel if elected in the 2024 elections.
The party aims to tackle this issue by introducing solar-powered outboard motors to the fishing community.
Speaking during a campaign in Jomoro on Sunday, the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, explained that this initiative would alleviate the frequent fuel shortages that have long plagued fishermen.
“We will use solar power to support fishermen. Their biggest problem is access to premix fuel for their outboard motors. We want to use solar power to run the outboard motors.
“All fishermen will be registered and will be supported with solar-powered outboard motors for which they will pay in instalments. With this, there will be no need for premix fuel. We will run a pilot programme from next month,” he stated.
