The assemblyman of the Apo Electoral Area in the Shama District in the Western Region, Ebenezer Amuwkwandoh, has warned the government to construct a fishing harbour in the area before the December 7 general elections or it will regret coming there to campaign.

The assemblyman bemoaned what he said was the neglect of the concerns and social challenges of residents in the district.

He warned that the government and its appointees have until December 7 to construct a fishing harbour in the area or they will face the anger of residents when they visit to campaign.

“If this government does not construct a harbour here before this election, then I don’t think they are supposed to come here. If they don’t take care and they come here, what we will do to them, they will regret because we are an ancient fishing community without a fishing harbour,” Mr. Amuwkwandoh told Philip Nii Lartey on The Community Forum on Channel One TV.

He added that the lack of a fishing harbour in the area has compelled fishmongers to move to Sekondi which has affected the revenue generated by the assembly.

“All the women are going to Sekondi to sell fish and that affects the assembly’s internally generated fund because there is no one to tax for the assembly to develop.”

The assemblyman further alleged that premix fuel is distributed to foot soldiers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the detriment of fishermen.

“It is very bad with the premix fuel. There are 44 drums that the tanker always brings. They can give us only 15 drums and take the rest to the NPP foot soldiers so we are not happy. We are the main people they bring the premix fuel for but we don’t benefit from it and we are not happy at all.”
