Oliver Barker-Vormawor, leader of the Democracy Hub has pleaded not guilty to counts of conspiracy to commit unlawful assembly, unlawful damage, offensive conduct conducive to breach of peace, assault on a public officer, defacement of public property, and stealing.

This follows his absence from court on Wednesday due to ill health.

Mr Barker-Vormawor was brought to court together with 11 others whose pleas were taken on Wednesday.

The court is set to deliver a ruling on whether to grant the accused bail.

Barker-Vormawor was arrested following allegations of unlawful activities during the group’s demonstration over the weekend.

The Ghana Police Service had earlier declared Barker-Vormawor wanted for his role in the protests on September 21-22. Despite the notice, Barker-Vormawor denied evading authorities, calling the accusations “baseless and misleading” in a Facebook post.

According to a police statement, his arrest stems from “various unlawful acts” that occurred at the 37 Intersection in Accra, where the protest unfolded.

On Wednesday, the Ghana Police Service refuted allegations that it denied medical care to Barker-Vormawor, clarifying that Barker-Vormawor along with another member of the group, Fanny Otoo, had been admitted to the Police Hospital after reporting ill health.
