Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has praised the government’s efforts in supporting cocoa farmers, calling it unprecedented.
He highlighted a significant increase in the price of a bag of cocoa under the NPP administration, from GH¢475 to GH¢3,000, which he said is essential for improving the livelihoods of cocoa farmers.
Speaking during a stakeholder engagement in the Wassa East constituency, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that this increase in cocoa prices demonstrates the NPP government’s commitment to the agricultural sector, particularly to cocoa farming, which is the backbone of Ghana’s economy.
“Chiefs, if you look at the work we have done in the agaric sector, we have done a lot. Cocoa farmers are our witnesses.
“Today a bag of cocoa has risen to GH3000. It has never happened. When we came it was GH475. What we have done is unprecedented,” he stated.
The NPP flagbearer further reiterated the party’s focus on the well-being of farmers and how the price increase is a direct reflection of their policies aimed at boosting the agricultural sector and improving the lives of those who depend on it.
