President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has stated that peacekeeping efforts alone are not enough to guarantee lasting stability in Africa.

Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, he emphasized the urgent need to address the root causes of conflict, including poverty, inequality, and lack of opportunity across the continent.

President Akufo-Addo stressed that peace cannot be imposed externally but must be cultivated from within African nations.

He called for a comprehensive strategy that addresses both internal and external factors contributing to instability.

“Peacekeeping alone is not enough, we must address the potential causes of conflict, poverty, inequality and lack of opportunity,” he stated.

He added “…However peace cannot be imposed from the outside it must be imposed from within. African nations must take ownership of the security and the African Union needs to strengthen itself to be able to respond swiftly to threats.”
