The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) is set to launch the “GH Artisan App,” a platform designed to connect artisans with potential clients across Ghana, according to the agency’s Deputy CEO, Ibrahim Bashiru.
This initiative, according to him, aims to streamline service delivery and boost employment opportunities for artisans across Ghana.
Speaking on Point Blank on Eyewitness News, Mr. Bashiru explained that the app will operate similarly to ride-hailing services like Uber, offering users easy access to skilled artisans such as plumbers, electricians, and tilers.
He further noted that while the app is still in development, YEA has already onboarded 10,000 artisans, with plans to add another 10,000 by the end of the month. The app will be open not only to artisans trained by YEA but also to independent tradespeople, providing them with a platform where their services can be easily accessed by the public.
“This is something that will happen in the coming day, we will be launching what we call the GH artisan App. We are going to onboard all the artisans that we have trained because we are expected to train about 20,000, of them, we are going to onboard them on the app.
“The app operates like Uber. So, if say Citi FM needs a plumber to fix something, you just go on the app and the nearest plumber will appear and just like the Uber, you call him and he comes and then he fixes it for you,” he stated.
He explained further: We are almost done with the app development but as we speak we have already onboarded 10,000 but it is not operational yet. Hopefully, by the end of this month, we will onboard another 10, 000.
“For artisans who have not been trained by YEA if they want to be on the app, our responsibility is to provide the platform, we will onboard them so anybody in this country who wants to access their services can easily go on our app; plumber, tiler, electrician, hairdresser, pedicure among others,” he stated.
