Richard Ahiagbah, the Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed his heartfelt gratitude to several key figures and institutions for their support during his recovery process.
Ahiagbah was involved in a serious accident on the Accra-Kumasi highway on July 27, 2024, around 1:30 am near Aduapompo, while he was travelling to Kumasi for a scheduled programme.
Ahiagbah’s vehicle collided with an articulated truck.
Speaking in an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Face to Face on Channel One TV, Ahiagbah highlighted the pivotal role played by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, describing him as a fatherly figure who maintained close contact and was instrumental in the healing process.
“He has kept in touch through the structures and was very useful to the processes that led to my healing and my sitting here today,” Ahiagbah noted.
He also commended the Chief of Staff, Frema Osei-Opare, for her significant contributions.
Additionally, Ahiagbah acknowledged the immediate and ongoing support from the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, who visited him the morning after the accident and continued to check on his well-being.
Ahiagbah extended his appreciation to the medical team at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, including Dr. Charles, Dr. Roland Azoli Addai, CEO Professor Addai-Mensah, and the entire management team, for their exceptional care and dedication.
Special mention was made of his assistant and partner, Mr Emmanuel Mensah, who remained by his bedside from the morning of the accident until his discharge and continues to support him.
Reflecting on the broader impact of his experience, Ahiagbah remarked, “To the larger country, I think it’s been a moment of finding out that while a lot of things divide us, a lot of things also connect us. The outpouring of support has been overwhelming.”
