The Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament for Karaga, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, has disclosed the Ghana Incentive-Based Risk-Sharing System for Agricultural Lending Project (GIRSAL) has contributed to the creation of nearly 3,000 jobs since its inception.
Minister Adam added the policy has also generated over $25 million in export revenue.
Speaking at the launch of the 5th anniversary of GIRSAL at the Marriott Hotel in Accra, Dr. Amin indicated that GIRSAL’s establishment has eased the financial predicament of Ghanaian agribusinesses and farmers.
“One of the greatest challenges that our agribusinesses and farmers faced over the years has been access to affordable credit. The financial risk associated with agricultural lending has long been a barrier to growth, to innovation, and to sustainability. This is where the role of GIRSAL has been really transformative.
“GIRSAL have been able to contribute to the creation of nearly 3,000 jobs and generated over $25 million in export revenue. These accomplishments were made possible through strong partnerships and development partners such as the African Development Bank with financial institutions and other stakeholders.
The minister further disclosed that the government has currently partnered with the Development Bank Ghana to advance agricultural development.
“I am particularly pleased to highlight the recent partnership between GIRSAL and Development Bank Ghana, which exemplifies our shared commitment to advancing agricultural development in Ghana.”
