Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday, September 16, clashed over the commissioning of the District Road Infrastructure Project (DRIP) machines in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region.
Citi News sources report that NDC supporters questioned why the NPP had posted pictures of their Parliamentary candidate, Bismark Basie Nkum, on the machines, leading to near fisticuffs.
District Chief Executive for Gomoa West, Baisie Nkum, indicated that the Member of Parliament for the area, Richard Gyan Mensah, pulled out a pistol and threatened to deal with the New Patriotic Party leadership in the constituency.
In a viral video, the DCE was heard saying, “The Omanhene of Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council was seated and the Omanahene of Gomoa Akyempim were also seated including all other traditional authorities and we have an MP who is a land guard who pulled out a gun in front of the cameras.”
“We will not kowtow to this intimidation and the district security council will sit on the matter and have the Member of Parliament prosecuted,” Bismark Baisie Nkum said.
The commissioning of the project was disrupted after the incident.
