The New Patriotic Party has at its National Executive Council meeting, unanimously, endorsed the  Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, as its 2024 Parliamentary candidate for the Fomena constituency.

In October 2020, Andrew Amoako Asiamah resigned from the NPP and ran as an independent candidate for the Fomena seat, ultimately winning the election.

He later became the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

Announcing the NEC’s decision to the leadership of the Constituency on Thursday, September 12, in Fomena, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako otherwise known as Chairman Wontumi, said the party is overwhelmed by the kind of support it has enjoyed from the 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament, even as an independent Member of Parliament for the area.

During an engagement with the leadership of the Fomena constituency, as part of the Regional Chairman’s constituency tour, Chairman Wontumi said the party is highly confident that the Fomena seat will return to the NPP with him as its candidate.

The visibly ecstatic 2nd Deputy Speaker, in his response, said he has missed everything about the party that is forever dear to his heart.

The MP, who doubles as a Parliamentary candidate, pledged his readiness to lead the party into a historic landslide electoral victory for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and himself in the Fomena constituency.

He urged all to put behind them, any issue, and work together for the greater good of the party.

To him, what is more important is for the various leaders of the Constituency, particularly Assembly members, to campaign on the many projects currently ongoing in the constituency to garner more votes for the party.

The Regional Chairman’s visit to the Fomena constituency, took him to communities like Adokwai, Dompoase, and Old Edubiase, among others, engaging the constituents on the need to retain the NPP in power, come December 7.
