Deputy Attorney General Alfred Tuah Yeboah has dismissed claims that the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) considers political leanings of individuals before electing them to serve in its executive positions, describing such claims as baseless.
Addressing journalists after the GBA’s election in Kumasi on Wednesday, he stated, “I think that such remarks have no basis. If you come to the GBA we have people who belong to various political parties.”
He further emphasised, “When it comes to elections, we do not consider political leanings. When it comes to elections, we look at individuals, we look at competence, how those people can deliver.”
Meanwhile, Mrs Efua Ghartey has been elected as the first female President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA).
Her election marks a significant milestone in the association’s history, reflecting the growing influence and recognition of women in the legal profession in Ghana.
She polled 1,278 votes to beat her closest contender Agbesi Dzakpasu who polled 1060.
