The Kasoa Ofaakor District Court has remanded Nai Akwasi Lartey also known by his peers as Donstar into police custody for a week.

The court said this would offer the police ample time to investigate the matter thoroughly and draw a conclusion.

Nai Kwasi Lartey who is the boundary chief of Awutu Ofaakor and also a bodyguard to Kasoa MP Mavis Hawa Koomson inappropriately discharged a firearm at the coronation of some sub-chiefs as part of the Awutu Awobia Festival at Awutu Breku on Tuesday, September 3, injuring one Ato Aidoo who is currently on admissions at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist hospital.

The suspect who was in police custody was presented before the court on Thursday.

A relative of the suspect Nana Yaw Asamoah questioned why the NDC is politicising the matter expressing fear that the strict application of action of justice may hinder the culprit from catering for the victim’s medical bills.

“Naa Koryoo should have at least visited the family of the victim but not to digress the issue to score a political point. My uncle cried because the matter had taken us by surprise and we had spent a lot of money on the material already. The matter has nothing to do with politics but it’s being politicized creating tension in Kasoa.

“The victim is from Winneba and an elderly man so I wonder why the NDC candidate is claiming that the victim is a relative. My brother is now in police custody and I wonder how he is going to take care of the victim,” he stated.
